Looks like there will be a new live music venue in Downtown L.A. that will host shows regularly. When Spaceland moved out of their Silverlake space last year to allow The Satellite to take over, Spaceland Productions mentioned that they will be moving into a new location sometime in the future. According to Curbed Los Angeles, Mitchell Frank who is the man behind The Echo, Echoplex, Prado, Malo and Mas Malo is the new operator of the Regent Theater on Main and Fourth in the Old Bank District. The Regent is a much larger venue compared to their old Silverlake home. The 11,790 square foot theater is a two story space that has a 1,289 person capacity. To mentally get a better grasp of the size, The Music Box fits 1,300 people.

There would be plenty of upgrades and remodeling going on to bring it up to date, and will include a full bar for the 21+ crowd. Frank also mentioned in past interviews that the new venue would be a more dance and DJ orientated club. I’m guessing it would be like Check Yo Ponytail 2 all week. A letter was sent out (which you can see below) which invites everyone to a public meeting taking place this Saturday:

Hello Neighbor,

We are the new operators of The Regent Theatre, located at 448 S. Main Street, and have recently signed a long-term lease at this location.  In 2000, the Regent theatre closed its doors after years as an adult movie house.  We are working on an adaptive reuse of the theater space and plan to reopen in fall 2012 as a live entertainment, live music, movie theater, special events venue and restaurant.

We are proud to bring this historic theater back to life and help further the growth and reemergence of the Historic Core area in Downtown Los Angeles.   We would like to take opportunity to invite you to a community meeting where we will introduce ourselves and present the details of our proposed operation. We are eager to hear your feedback on our plans, answer any questions you have, and learn from you how we can best contribute to the neighborhood.

The official request that we have presented to the Office of Zoning Administration is:

“A Conditional Use, Pursuant to Los Angeles Municipal Code Section 12.24-W,1, to permit the sale and consumption of a full line of alcoholic beverages in conjunction with an 11,790 square foot theater/restaurant/bar accommodating 933 patrons on the ground floor and 356 in a 1,780 square foot second story balcony for an approximate total of 1289 patrons with hours of operation from 8:00am to 4:00am and having live entertainment,”

“A Conditional Use, Pursuant to Los Angeles Municipal Code Section 12.24-W,18, to permit incidental patron dancing in conjunction with a theater/restaurant/bar,”

A Zone Variance, Pursuant to Los Angeles City Charter Section 562 and Municipal Code Section 12.27, to permit a variance from Section 12.26-E to allow six required parking spaces be located off-site and secured by lease in lieu of recorded covenant.”

Operating a theater venue and restaurant that is compatible with the neighborhood is something that we take very seriously, so we hope that you and our other neighbors can join us for this meeting:

Location: The Regent, 448 S. Main St., Los Angeles, CA 90013

Time: 11:00a.m. -12:30p.m.
Date: February 4th, 2012

We encourage you to attend this meeting we and look forward to meeting you if we haven’t already.

Feel free to call or email Eddie Navarette, from FE Design our expeditor on the project, with any questions, comments, or concerns at (213) 687-6963 or fedesign@sbcglobal.net.

Sincerely,

Mitchell Frank
General Manager

What do you guys think about the new venue? Other than the regular shows at The Smell, Club Nokia and bigger arena shows at Staples Center this is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood to catch some good live music. Also with the loss of The Music Box a new venue in town couldn’t have come at a better time.

Yet another update which should end all of the speculation on what exactly is going on over at one of our favorite local venues, The Music Box. First we reported that the live music venue would be closed temporarily due to some changes in management and even Goldenvoice who handles the majority of their booking issued a statement that read:

“At this time, it is our understanding that the closing of The Music Box is a short term closure, please be patient with us as we work out the details as they pertain to our previously scheduled shows.”

We felt better once we saw that more shows were being booked to take place in the future at The Music Box. Because why would they extend the schedule if they’re closing for good right? But we just received a couple of photos from a reader that went over to purchase tickets to see Cults on March 22nd. The photos are of the actual eviction papers that are currently posted on the front door’s of The Music Box.

As you can see in the photos the Sheriff’s Department are ordering all debtors to vacate the premises no later than January 31st. That’s less than a week away. This looks like to be the nail in the coffin for the current occupants, but this could hopefully mean that a new renter may be coming in. What is going to happen to the 12 upcoming shows on the venues schedule? We will continue to update this post as the information comes in.

If you’re planning to going to this years Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, then hopefully you’re aware that the 3-day passes go on sale today. Now if you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t read some of our other warnings, let me break it down for you real quick. General admission and VIP passes for the first weekend are completely SOLD OUT, but you can still purchase the Festival/Shuttle pass ticket for weekend 1 which is $50 more expensive (but kinda worth it). You’d have a better chance scoring a ticket for the second weekend and at this point it comes with some recommendation. We would hate for a true fan to lose out on the experience or buy from a scalper. So while it might suck that you’re going to have to wait an extra week, at least you can have a better chance to get in.

All tickets will go on sale starting today Friday, January 13th at 10am through the official Coachella website and no where else. We are posting this at 9am to encourage that you create an account to speed up the process. Read Goldenvoice’s “How To Purchase” page HERE. We are also leaving links galore on this post to make it easier for you. So click HEREHERE or even HERE to get access.

3-day general admission passes will go for $285.00 plus any additional service fees, and this WILL SELL OUT and probably within a few days. We hope to see you in Indio and join us for some dancing in the Sahara tent.

Purchase: Tickets for Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival 2012 - Weekend 1

Purchase: Tickets for Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival 2012 - Weekend 2

With a ton of 3-day passes sold during the layaway presale, general admisson and VIP tickets for the first weekend of Coachella (April 13th-15th) are listed as sold out on the festival website. But that does not mean you cannot buy a pass for the first weekend. You still have the option to purchase the festival/shuttle pass combo which goes for $335 plus service fees. This is not a bad option to go with at all. Many of you out there know that the parking lot to exit the festival is a complete nightmare. The shuttle service provided will help you to completely avoid that all weekend long.

Tickets for both weekends of Coachella will go on sale starting on Friday, January 13th through the Coachella website. Goldenvoice even added this nifty “how to purchase” page so that there is no confusion the day of which can be seen HERE. If you are still hesitating and think you can wait a bit to purchase passes… don’t. Last years festival sold out within a week, and this year is on the track to beat that record.

Can’t head down to Indio in April to see Radiohead headline the main stage at Coachella? Well there is an alternative for all you Los Angeles fans if you’re willing to drive a bit. The band have announced additional dates on their current world tour and it looks like Radiohead will also be taking the stage of the Santa Barbara Bowl on Thursday, April 12th. This is also considered a much smaller venue compare to the polo grounds since the bowl fits about 4,500 people.

As of now there is no on sale ticket information to see Radiohead at the Santa Barbara Bowl but that should change sometime in the near future. We will keep you posted with any additional information that we come across. To see the current tour schedule click HERE.

UPDATE: Tickets will go on sale starting on Saturday, January 21st at 11am through Ticketmaster. No pricing yet and no mention of a fan presale.
