Yet another update which should end all of the speculation on what exactly is going on over at one of our favorite local venues, The Music Box. First we reported that the live music venue would be closed temporarily due to some changes in management and even Goldenvoice who handles the majority of their booking issued a statement that read:

“At this time, it is our understanding that the closing of The Music Box is a short term closure, please be patient with us as we work out the details as they pertain to our previously scheduled shows.”

We felt better once we saw that more shows were being booked to take place in the future at The Music Box. Because why would they extend the schedule if they’re closing for good right? But we just received a couple of photos from a reader that went over to purchase tickets to see Cults on March 22nd. The photos are of the actual eviction papers that are currently posted on the front door’s of The Music Box.

As you can see in the photos the Sheriff’s Department are ordering all debtors to vacate the premises no later than January 31st. That’s less than a week away. This looks like to be the nail in the coffin for the current occupants, but this could hopefully mean that a new renter may be coming in. What is going to happen to the 12 upcoming shows on the venues schedule? We will continue to update this post as the information comes in.

Two great bands will be coming to Los Angeles in March for one great co-headlining show. The Joy Formidable and A Place To Bury Strangers will both be performing at The Music Box in Hollywood on Wednesday, March 14th. Yet another show added to The Music Box schedule, things are looking up for the venues future.

Tickets to see both bands perform together are set to go on sale starting on thursday, January 12th at 10am through Ticketmaster for $22.50 plus any additional service fees. Seeing both bands separately before, I can already tell you that they will be a perfect match to see together.

So this is two stories in one, Delta Spirit have announced that they will be making their way back to Los Angeles for another show. Where will they be playing? The Music Box. That’s right, the Hollywood venue that has so many rumors flying around right now about it’s current operating status will house the show which is set to take place on Friday May 11th. Opening for them will be Waters. Does this mean that any “troubles” that were taking place behind the scenes are over? We’re still not sure, but this does give us a glimmer of hope that The Music Box will stick around for some time.

Tickets for Delta Spirit will go on sale starting on Friday, January 13th at 10am through Ticketmaster for $21.50 plus any additional service fees. If any changes come about on future Music Box shows will update you guys with the information.

So there is a lot of talk going on right now about the status of one of Los Angeles’ greatest live music venues, The Music Box. It was shocking to hear that there was any type of possibility of this theatre closing, but if you were to pass by right now you will see that the marquee currently reads “Out of Order”, and we hear that there is a lot of shuffling going on with the new management. The only official statement that has been released comes from Goldenvoice who does about 90% of their show booking:

“At this time, it is our understanding that the closing of The Music Box is a short term closure, please be patient with us as we work out the details as they pertain to our previously scheduled shows.”

There are still a few shows scheduled to take place at The Music Box in the near future and it looks like that those will still go on as of now, so if you have tickets to any of them hold on to them. If there are any changes that come up we will be sure to inform you. But lets just hope we don’t lose this great live music spot.

We previously mentioned that Cults will be coming back for a local show at The Glass House on Friday, March 23rd. But if for some reason that date or location doesn’t work for you, the band have decided to add another local date, and this time it will be closer to Los Angeles. You can now see Cults when they play at The Music Box in Hollywood a day earlier on Thursday, March 22nd.

Tickets to see Cults at The Glass House are still available to purchase online through Ticketfly for $15.00 plus any additional service fees. Tickets for the new show at The Music Box will go on sale starting on Saturday, January 7th at 10am through Ticketmaster for $22.50 plus any additional service fees. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Cults perform live then take advantage of atleast one of these upcoming dates.

This is in addition to the two sold out shows taking place the following week at the Shrine Auditorium and Pomona Fox Theater
