The Melvins have scheduled another local Los Angeles show to take place in the Spring. This time the band will be headlining the Troubadour on Friday, April 13th. This is a good show choice if you’re not going to be in Indio that weekend for a little festival known as Coachella. You can expect The Melvins to pull from a very extensive music catalog that spans 25 years and 18 albums.

Tickets for this show are set to go on sale starting on Friday, January 20th at 1pm thorugh Ticketfly for $20.00 plus any additional service fees. If you have yet to see The Melvins perform live this is should be added to your calendar ASAP and tickets are sure to sell out.

Craig Finn is best known as the front man for The Hold Steady and announced early this year that he has been working towards releasing a solo album. “Clear Heart Full Eyes” will be released on 1/24 next year, but we already got word on a solo show that will be taking place here in Los Angeles. You can see Craig Finn when he performs at the Troubadour on Monday, February 20th.

With October one of the most jam packed months for shows this year, we decided that it was time to bring back the daily updates so you know exactly whats going on in our city. So lets get things started and let you know whats going on tonight and get your week started off right.

  • Toro Y Moi will be headlining the El Rey Theatre along with Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Tickets are still available for this show and is our pick of the night.
  • Dum Dum Girls are celebrating their new album and will be performing at the Troubadour along with Crocodiles and Colleen Green.
  • Janes Addiction will be taking over the John Anson Ford Amphitheater. This is the first of two sold out shows, but I think you guys can get creative if you really want in.
  • Swahili Blonde will be kicking off their month long Monday residency tonight at The Echo along with Crooked Cowboy & The Freshwater Indians , Raw Geronimo  and DREAMtapes.
  • Hanni El Khatib, The Kopecky Family Band, Elizaveta and special DJ guest Ian Ball from Gomez will all be at Bardot for It’s A School Night.

We put together another list of up and comers in the indie music scene that are definitely worth a listen. Each of the bands listed below also have an upcoming Los Angeles show date for you to check out if you’re really digging it. Stream and be happy.

Kindest Lines hail from New Orleans and come correct with a electro/shoegaze sound. Check out their single “Baltimore” off of their debut LP “Covered In Dust”. Kindest Lines will be performing at The Echo on Sunday, October 2nd for Part Time Punks along with Violet Tremors and Jewels of The Nile.

One of my current favorite bands to come out of L.A. is Fidlar. They have been holding down a lot of opening spots for big name bands and the time is right that Fidlar get the headline slot. Catch them at The Smell on Sunday, October 16th and then at the Troubadour on Friday, October 28th.

If you’re into the local music scene Swahili Blonde may already be a familiar name, but if not then you might want to get to know it. This is a band that brings a long list of instruments to their complex sound. Listening to their latest release “Psycho Tropical Ballet Pink”, you will hear the sitar, saxophone, violin and the forgotten omniphone. Check out “Purple Ink” below and catch Swahili Blonde during their month long Monday night residency at The Echo.

One of the bands that we were so sad to miss after the Sunset Junction cancellation was Dum Dum Girls. I absolutely loved their “He Gets Me High” EP and eagerly awaiting for their second full length album “Only In Dreams” to be released this month. They are scheduled to play at the Troubadour on Monday, October 3rd and tickets are still available to purchase for that show for $15.00 plus additional fees.

But if you prefer a free show, we suggest you make your way over to Amoeba Music in Hollywood on Tuesday, September 27th at 7pm for a performance by Dum Dum Girls. This is a first come first served show and early arrival is suggested if you want to get a good spot.
